Edition 008 – The Art of Inviting Flow (Through Self-Care & Play)

Welcome back to The Drop In — your weekly Flow-State OS for peak performance.

Over the past several weeks, we’ve been focused on work. Deep work, structure, removing distractions—creating the perfect environment for flow.

But here’s the truth: even in perfect conditions, you can’t force flow.

Flow is an invitation.

And one of the most overlooked ways to invite it?
Taking care of yourself: body, mind, and spirit.

Why Your State Matters

If you’re running on empty, burned out, or low on energy, deep work can feel impossible.
It’s not just about the tools and tactics, it’s about the state you bring to your work.

When you feel good in your own body, steady in your emotions, and inspired in your spirit, you’re in the best position for flow to find you.

Self-Care as a Flow Trigger

Self-care isn’t indulgence, it’s infrastructure.

Travel. Exercise. Art. Water. Rest. Cold plunges. Sauna sessions. Red light therapy. Massages.

When you give yourself permission to do what you love just because you love it, you’re not chasing flow. You’re making space for it.

This Week’s Challenge

For the next 7 days, treat self-care like a non-negotiable.
Do one thing every day that fuels you. Body or soul.

Not because it’s productive.
Because it’s you.

Tool of the Week – The Play Prescription

  1. Write down 3 activities you loved as a kid.

  2. Schedule at least one of them this week.
Silly is fine. “Unproductive” is fine. The point is joy. Did you love playing video games? Go play one. Did you love to draw? Get out a pencil and piece of paper.

Practice of the Week – The Self-Care Audit

  • Take 5 minutes to list what restores you. Travel, movement, art, nature, water, heat, stillness, music, conversation, solitude.

  • Keep it visible.

  • On days you feel drained, pick one and do it, no negotiation.

The Drop In Takeaway:
Flow loves a well-cared-for mind and body. You don’t have to earn joy—it’s the foundation that makes your best work possible.
